startPreliminary information for 2026 Walk for Freedom

Taking place very early on 15th and 16th August 2026.

We also are seeking helpers/volunteers to assist with:

  • Driving Duties - Food Distribution plus First Aid/Exhaustion Duties
  • Food Preparation
  • First Aiders
  • Map Reading
  • Route Coordinators
  • Marketing & Publicity
  • Donations & Fund Raising [See QR Code]

The fastest ever time has been 25 hours - thus more than a day! Last year was 34 hours. We are not able to coordinate multiple starts for differing walking abilities - therefore it’s a fixed start time [Ideally 5:00am to 5:30am] - and a drop out option (driven to a rail station or the end point/major meeting point) only!

We are not the British Heart Foundation or Amnesty International ( although we do 'think bigger' than these two)! But do not posses their substantial “infrastructure”
So we always recommend doing a part of this Walk for Freedom - only the very strong have completed it previously - see image below [Click on the image to see a much larger vesion]

2026 Journey points

So the hardest parts are the Walk from the start (Brighton Pier to Devils Dyke), Even harder is the Walk Down From Devil's Dyke to Henfield - (often mostly exposed and very hot too) - not advisable for those with injuries at all. Then the Night Walk from Christ's Hospital to Guildford - again not advisable for those afraid of the dark!! Or being alone - as it is very much advisable to keep together in a group - with head torches etc
