Demonstration and Subsequest Petition
- Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3). Zimbabwe's proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 presents a grave and direct threat to the democratic foundations of the Republic. If passed, it would fundamentally alter the constitutional order, including provisions concerning presidential term limits, judicial independence and the electoral process. The Bill's Final Reading is expected imminently, and it is our intention to present a formal parliamentary petition before that date. Your presence and testimony as a sitting Member of Parliament and practising constitutional lawyer would be of exceptional weight in this effort.
- Harassment and Suppression of Opposition Representatives. The systematic targeting of opposition Members of Parliament, civic activists and human rights defenders by the Zimbabwean security apparatus must be brought before the international community with credible first-hand testimony. Your own detention in February 2026, alongside the broader pattern of politically motivated interference documented across opposition constituencies, represents an urgent and documented human rights crisis.
- Humanitarian Conditions and Economic Deterioration. The humanitarian situation across Zimbabwe continues to deteriorate. We seek to engage with UK parliamentarians on the need for international pressure to be maintained, and for the British Government to consider further targeted diplomatic and economic measures in support of the Zimbabwean people.
- Participation in Planned Demonstration and Public Engagement. ZHRO and its partners are organising a public demonstration and community engagement event in the United Kingdom during this period. Your attendance and address to assembled members of the Zimbabwean diaspora and British supporters would be both symbolic and substantive — a sitting parliamentarian bearing witness to conditions inside Zimbabwe on British soil.
Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement
Baroness Kate Hoey of Lylehill and Rathlin and Lord Jonny Oates of the House of Lords, both of whom have demonstrated sustained interest in democratic governance and human rights in Zimbabwe and the wider Southern African region. We respectfully request their support in facilitating parliamentary access and engagement.
We further intend to approach the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to ensure appropriate recognition of the issues that CAB3 is caising in BOTH, Zimbabwe and the Diaspora.
Location Zim Embassy and No 10 Downing St
This is a joint event supported by Women of Zimbabwe, ROHR, ZAPU, CCC and ZHRO - in fact the entire Zimbabwean Diaspora - as the Flyer says "For Zimbabweans Everywhere"
