The X post by Anesu (@Chivhu4lyfe) CLICK HERE for Original
On March 31, 2025, @Chivhu4lyfe accuses 34 individuals of being part of "ED's Grand Looting Mafia" and "Political Criminals," collectively referred to as "Zvigananda" (Shona for "thieves"). These individuals are blamed for Zimbabwe's economic collapse, healthcare crisis, and overall governance/administration failures.
The post ties into the broader context of the March 31, 2025, protests in Harare, where citizens expressed frustration over corruption, economic hardship, and President Emmerson Mnangagwa's potential term extension to 2030, which many view as a violation of the constitution. Below is an analysis of the named individuals, their roles, and their ties to Mnangagwa, based on the provided data and broader context.
Context of the Post and Protests
The post reflects deep public discontent in Zimbabwe, a country grappling with economic decline, hyperinflation, and a failing healthcare system. The term "Zvigananda" underscores the perception of systemic corruption, where a small elite is accused of plundering national resources while the majority suffer. The protests on March 31, 2025, were part of a national shutdown, with demonstrators opposing Mnangagwa’s rumored plan to extend his presidency beyond his constitutional two-term limit (ending in 2028). This unrest is further fueled by internal ZANU-PF factionalism, particularly between Mnangagwa’s camp and supporters of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, as highlighted by war veteran Blessed Geza’s resistance movement (M31).
Mnangagwa, who came to power in a 2017 coup against Robert Mugabe, has been accused of consolidating power through patronage networks, rewarding loyalists with key positions and economic opportunities while sidelining rivals. The individuals listed in the post are seen as part of this network, benefiting from their proximity to Mnangagwa while allegedly engaging in corrupt practices.

Harare, Still Conflicting
Given the date, March 31, 2025, and the context of Harare, Zimbabwe, there are several conflicting messages and developments that make predicting today’s events challenging but possible to assess based on available information. Let’s break this down systematically.
Context and Conflicting Messages
There are reports of significant political tension in Harare leading up to today. A planned demonstration, described by some as an "uprising," has been called for by Blessed Geza, an exiled military veteran, demanding the resignation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This stems from allegations of corruption, nepotism, and economic mismanagement, with some war veterans and political elites reportedly backing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga as a potential successor. The ruling ZANU-PF party, however, has dismissed these calls as "delusional rumblings" and vowed that no protests will occur, with the government taking pre-emptive measures like dismissing a senior general and increasing security.
On the other hand, recent arson attacks in Harare and Goromonzi, confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, have heightened tensions, with some linking these incidents to the upcoming protests. Posts on X reflect public concern, with warnings to avoid Harare’s CBD due to expected heavy police presence, a weapons ban, and potential violence. Some speculate that clashes could erupt if crowds grow, while others believe the protests might fizzle out due to government crackdowns, with Geza’s allies potentially being arrested.
Additionally, there are unrelated but concurrent developments in Zimbabwe, such as the Chinese embassy’s donations of Boer goats and boreholes, a cholera outbreak, and economic struggles (e.g., civil servants moonlighting as vendors due to low salaries). These highlight the broader socio-economic challenges that might fuel public discontent but don’t directly predict today’s events.
Analysis of Likely Scenarios
- Protest Activity and Government Response:
- The planned demonstration is a focal point. Given the government’s pre-emptive actions—dismissing a senior general, increasing security, and issuing warnings—it’s likely that Harare will see a heavy police and possibly military presence today, especially in the CBD. The weapons ban suggests authorities are preparing for potential unrest.
- However, the scale of the protests is uncertain. Some sources, like independent political analyst Elton Ziki, suggest that the "temperature" isn’t as high as it was during the 2017 coup against Robert Mugabe, implying that public turnout might be limited. The arrest of journalist Blessed Mhlanga and the crackdown on dissent (e.g., activists being tortured before a regional summit last year) indicate the government’s willingness to suppress opposition, which could deter large crowds.

An Urgent Plea for Reason & Restraint
To the administration of Zimbabwe and All Citizens
As Zimbabwe stands on the precipice of 31st March 2025, gripped by escalating tensions and internal power struggles within Zanu PF, we at ZHRO implore all state actors and Zimbabweans to pause and reflect.
The alarming signs of an impending violent reaction from the State, particularly the Police and potentially the military, threaten to plunge our beloved nation into chaos and bloodshed. Yet, there remains a fleeting window of opportunity to avert catastrophe. We beseech President Mnangagwa and his administration to recognize that brute force cannot extinguish the smouldering crises afflicting Zimbabwe. Like pouring petrol on a fire, such actions will only inflame the desperation of an already weary populace.
The Executive must ease its foot off the accelerator, for it is speeding toward a precipice from which all, especially innocent civilians, may plummet to ruin. By failing to steward the nation's affairs and safeguard citizens from economic-triggered instability, the current leadership has itself become a peril to Zimbabwe's stability and security. No amount of violence, nor payments to police, military, or youth to act as mercenaries, can remedy the dog-eat-dog circumstances into which Zimbabwe has descended. Arresting innocent people rather than the rot consuming our society will only hasten the end.
While repression of the masses in cities and towns may seem a convenient short-term tactic, neglecting the underlying causes risks unleashing a nightmare surpassing South Africa's xenophobic attacks or the Rwandan Genocide. In an atmosphere of fear and mistrust, neighbour may turn against neighbour in an uncontrollable spiral of killing.
If the State persists on this path, it may forfeit control over national security entirely, driving Zimbabwe into unimaginable chaos and loss of life. We demand constitutionally enshrined human security for all Zimbabweans now - a security that no number of boots on the ground or guns can deliver. There is still time to choose a different course, to seek enduring solutions over temporary suppression. We appeal to the patriotism of all Zimbabweans, within the regime and without, to pull our country back from the brink.
In hope and resolve,
John C Burke, ZHRO Founder

Zanu PF: Rapists & Support Rape as a tool of Oppression.
So are all Zanu PF members RAPISTS?
In Zimbabwe, state-sponsored rape has been documented as a tool of political repression, particularly around elections, aimed at intimidating opposition supporters and suppressing dissent. This tactic has been notably employed during periods of heightened political tension, such as the 2008 presidential election runoff, to influence electoral outcomes and instil fear among citizens.
Historically, during the 2008 elections, reports from organizations like Human Rights Watch and AIDS-Free World highlighted a systematic campaign of violence, including rape, perpetrated by supporters of the ruling ZANU-PF party against members and perceived supporters of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). These acts were often carried out by ZANU-PF militias, "war veterans," and youth groups, with evidence suggesting coordination by state security forces, including the army and police. For instance, rural areas that shifted support to the MDC saw concentrated violence, with rape used to punish and deter opposition activity. Victims included women targeted for their own or their families' political affiliations, with assailants sometimes explicitly linking the assaults to electoral choices, such as warning against voting for the MDC.
The psychological impact on Zimbabwe's citizens has been profound. Research, such as Lauren E. Young’s study "The Psychology of State Repression: Fear and Dissent Decisions in Zimbabwe" (published in the American Political Science Review, 2019), demonstrates how fear induced by such violence alters dissent behaviour. In a lab-in-the-field experiment with 671 opposition supporters, those exposed to fear-inducing stimuli showed significantly reduced willingness to engage in hypothetical and behavioural dissent, alongside increased pessimism and risk aversion. This suggests that state-sponsored rape, as part of a broader repressive strategy, exploits emotional responses to paralyze political opposition, making citizens less likely to challenge the regime even when they oppose it.
The use of rape also has gendered dimensions, disproportionately affecting women and leveraging societal stigma to amplify its effects. Reports indicate that victims faced not only physical trauma but also ostracization, with many reluctant to report due to shame or fear of reprisal. This compounded the psychological toll, breaking down community cohesion and individual resilience, further entrenching the ruling party’s control by silencing potential activists.
Electorally, this violence has skewed participation and outcomes. By targeting opposition strongholds and individuals involved in election processes—like polling agents in 2018, some of whom were reportedly raped or tortured to coerce compliance with falsified results—the state has undermined the integrity of the vote. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has been criticized for complicity or inaction, reinforcing perceptions of an uneven playing field.
Overall, state-sponsored rape in Zimbabwe has served as both a direct weapon against political adversaries and a psychological tool to suppress the will of a hard-pressed populace, creating a climate of terror that distorts democratic processes and entrenches authoritarian rule.
The Psychological Harms
The psychological impact of state-sponsored rape in Zimbabwe on its citizens, particularly in the context of elections and political repression, is multifaceted, deeply traumatic, and long-lasting. Drawing from available evidence and studies on similar contexts, here are the detailed effects:
-
Fear and Paralysis of Dissent
Research like Lauren E. Young’s 2019 study ("The Psychology of State Repression: Fear and Dissent Decisions in Zimbabwe") provides experimental evidence of how fear, triggered by violence such as rape, reshapes political behaviour. In her study with 671 Zimbabwean opposition supporters, those exposed to fear-inducing cues—reflecting real experiences of state violence—exhibited a 50% reduction in willingness to engage in hypothetical dissent (e.g., attending protests) and a significant drop in actual dissent behaviours (e.g., signing petitions). This fear response is heightened by rape’s personal and invasive nature, making it a potent tool to deter political engagement. Victims and their communities internalize the message that resistance leads to severe consequences, fostering a pervasive sense of helplessness.

The diaspora has been active in pushing for Zimbabwe's Justice, Economic Stability, Free & Fair Elections, Human Rights, Constitution and an Independent Judiciary for the last 33 months. However, intimidation, violence and corruption have still plagued Zimbabwe, since it was pointed out that Mnangagwa and Zanu PF would "DESTABILISE" the Region due to his upcoming Chairmanship - which indeed has happened - not that we are happy about it! As the regime often claims. The Diaspora are extremely patriotic!
Our contacts, within and without of Zimbabwe, all conclude the same thing - Zimbabwe is NOT A DEMOCRACY. It fails on every metric that applies to a democracy. Indeed, we have posited that there is only a masquerade of a democracy in Zimbabwe in several articles - some with the deep research assistance of AI {Twitter's GROK3 and the super 'slim' Chinese DeepSeek} CLICK HERE to read and CLICK HERE for Testing a Democracy by measuring how many days in prison do activists have to serve? In early 2016 Rashiwe Bayisayi and myself started to explore walking routes from Brighton to London. It took quite some time and over 100 miles of footpaths, bridleways and byways {all thanks to Ordnance Survey Map APPs}.
It was Rashi's idea to commemorate Zimbabwe's Hero's Day - {Second Monday in August} with something heroic in the UK. And a 100+ km 30 hour Walk seemed to fit that notion. So we set about planning. This was whilst we were a part of Ephraim Tapa's ROHR/Zimbabwe Vigil - which we were funding at that time {another long story!!}.
History and Development
The 2016 Walk proved far too arduous to be completed over the two days - which included an over-night camping experience in Edenbridge, Kent. Since in the morning very few of the exhausted walkers could be roused. Indeed several had to retire with injuries to muscles and giant blisters. {we still feel bad about that to this day}. See the link to some photos of that ROHR Walk - with the ROHR Walk T Shirts {several are still available!! - but the web links on those T Shirts, are now incorrect}. Blockchain Voting Could End Election Rigging in Zimbabwe
For years, Zimbabwe’s elections have been plagued by allegations of vote rigging, manipulation, and outright fraud. Many Zimbabweans, both at home and in the diaspora, have grown weary of a system where the results often seem pre-determined by the ruling Zanu PF party and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC). Now, a bold new pilot scheme to introduce blockchain technology for voting among Zimbabweans in the diaspora could finally offer a way to break this cycle of corruption and bring democracy in a country that has been marred by corruption for decades now.
A History of Electoral Fraud
Zimbabwe’s political landscape has been dominated by Zanu PF for over four decades, with recent elections under President Emmerson Mnangagwa doing little to convince critics that real democracy has taken place. Allegations of ballot stuffing, voter roll tampering, voter intimidation have become almost synonymous with Zimbabwean elections. The ZEC, meant to be an independent electoral body, is often seen as little more than a tool for maintaining Zanu PF’s iron grip on power led by Emerson Mnangagwa.
According to Take 2 Zimbabwe, “The need for genuine electoral reforms is critical if Zimbabwe is ever to achieve a truly democratic process.” The article outlines key reforms such as “transparent voter registration, unbiased media coverage, and independent election management” all areas where blockchain technology could make a significant impact (Take 2 Zimbabwe, 2024).
While the country’s elite, those within Mnangagwa’s inner circle enjoy wealth and privilege, yet ordinary Zimbabweans are left struggling in dire poverty with below par infrastructure, as the countries resources are looted on an industrial scale. Unemployment is rampant, and economic opportunities remain scarce and failed government policies that throttle the masses. The disparity between the politically connected and the rest of the population could not be starker.
Can Blockchain Make a Difference
Blockchain technology offers a unique approach to voting that could address many of these issues head-on. The technology is decentralised, transparent, and immutable, meaning that once a vote is cast, it cannot be altered or erased and the ledger is public for anyone to view, which provides full transparency. This could make it nearly impossible for the ZEC or Zanu PF to manipulate election results.
With blockchain, votes are recorded on a public ledger, allowing anyone to verify the results in real-time. Unlike traditional systems where a handful of officials can skew vote tallies behind closed doors, blockchain voting offers transparency at every step.
For Zimbabweans in the diaspora, who number between 3 and 4 million worldwide, including an estimated 112,000 in the UK, this could be a game changer. Many of these Zimbabweans have been unable to vote in previous elections due to logistical and political barriers. Blockchain voting would allow them to cast their ballots securely and remotely, providing a stronger voice to those outside the country.
Other Countries Have Done It, Why Not Zimbabwe
Estonia has been using blockchain technology in its elections for years, offering a secure and transparent voting system. Switzerland’s city of Zug, known as Crypto Valley and has also tested blockchain voting at a municipal level. Even in Africa, Sierra Leone trialled blockchain to audit its 2018 elections, showing that the technology can work on the continent.
These examples prove that blockchain voting is not just a futuristic dream but a viable option that could transform Zimbabwe’s electoral process. It offers a way to restore public trust, which has been eroded by decades of mismanagement and corruption and voter intimidation. SOURCE: Link Here and HERE from the Financial Times re Estonia
Challenges and Considerations
Of course, implementing blockchain voting would not be without its challenges. Reliable internet access would be critical to ensure that all eligible voters could participate. Cybersecurity measures would also need to be robust to protect the system from hacking or sabotage. Additionally, new legal frameworks would be required to support this technology, ensuring that disputes can be resolved fairly and transparently.
A Step Towards True Democracy
If this pilot scheme proves successful, it could pave the way for broader electoral reforms in Zimbabwe. It might finally offer a level playing field, where votes count equally, and election outcomes reflect the true will of the people not just the wishes of a privileged few within the inner circle of Zanu Pf.
For too long, Zimbabweans have been asked to participate in a democracy that offers only the illusion of choice. Blockchain voting could change that, giving millions of Zimbabweans—both at home and abroad—a real voice in their country’s future.
The world will be watching closely. Could this be the first step towards breaking the chains of corruption and bringing about real change in Zimbabwe? Many hope so, and with blockchain technology, that hope might finally have a solid foundation.

X/Twitter: Grok3 Item in Response
To assess the authenticity of the statement, "Minister for State Security, Lovemore Matuke has warned social media users who agitate for the removal of Mr Mnangagwa through demonstrations that they would be dealt with ruthlessly by the system," I’ll approach it by considering available information and context up to the current date, February 26, 2025. You mentioned having a photo of a press article, which could be helpful, but since I can’t see it, I’ll rely on reasoning, existing patterns, and relevant background data to evaluate its plausibility.
“Lovemore Matuke is indeed the Minister of State for National Security in Zimbabwe as of late 2024, appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in November 2024 to oversee the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO). He also holds the position of Zanu-PF Politburo Secretary for Security, giving him a significant role in both government and party security matters. His public statements, as reported in recent months, often focus on maintaining party discipline, countering dissent, and addressing perceived threats to Mnangagwa’s leadership.”
“For instance, in November 2024, Matuke warned Zanu-PF members against misusing social media to undermine party unity, emphasizing that the party would track and discipline offenders. He’s also been linked to efforts to curb information leaks and restrict media access to party events, signaling a hard-line stance on controlling narratives.”
“The statement you provided aligns with this pattern. Zimbabwe’s government, under Mnangagwa’s Second Republic, has a documented history of responding harshly to dissent, particularly when it involves protests or social media campaigns. Past incidents—like the 2019 crackdown on fuel price protests or the 2020 arrests of activists during the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter movement—show a willingness to use force and legal measures against those challenging the regime.”

The best laid plans! At the beginning of the week {after submitting the list of Petitioners to the MET Police Diplomatic Unit on the 29th January - and got all 6 approved) we had Shamiso Moyo, detained and in Yarleswood! and then Chief Ndiweni is offered a minor surgical procedure - on Thursday 20th Feb! And these days it's best not to say - "can we reschedule" - as it might be in 12 months time, or longer. Not to worry we have another scheduled petition submission for the 5th March - only 2 weeks away.
Chief Ndiweni And I organise a recording of his intended speech on Tuesday 18th. We create a timed web article to appear at 13:45 on the 20th to coincide with the speeches on the day. The article is a written transcript and an audio embedded file so the recipient can hear the message too. It appears on our ZEXIT platform, in a section entitled "Chief Ndiweni's Diary"! Charles Kanyimo also writes and excellent article too - concerning Electoral Reform - something we will champion on the 5th March 2025. But we did not wish to publish before the 20th Feb petition had been delivered! So again we created a timed future publication - to appear at 14:30 on the 20th Feb. 2025 I hope ypou are all following this!
On the Wednesday night I look up the weather forecasts for home and central London - 70-90% chance of RAIN!!
Fortunately at 7:00 am on the Thursday 20th Feb - although very gloomy, and the ground was wet, it looked as if the rain had stopped. As indeed we did not get another drop until is started spitting at 3:00pm - after we had finished - as we use an ink-jet printer - any rain could literally wash away our arguments!
Arrived at Victoria Train Station at 11:30am. My heart-felt sympathies go to Josephine Jenje (one of our organisers) who messaged me to say she was on the Night Bus to London - so she could arrive on the Thursday morning of the 20th Feb - that's preparation indeed! I walk to The Zimbabwe Embassy, and nearly there, just catch the eye of Dickson Chikwizo (another organiser) as he passes me head down, who was going to get something to eat!
First there, and leaning in the doorway to the Zimbabwe Embassy is our old friend Peter Sidindi (in his very 'offical' looking peaked cap with Red Band - see Flickr images} - who I have not seen for a quite a few years. In fact several "old faces" appear over the next 30 minutes. So we start taking photos and the odd video too. You can see the whole day on our Flickr Platform - which now that stands at over 150 images [CLICK HERE to VIEW}. We meet up with a lot of well known faces from the past - and a great many new faces too.
Outside the Zimbabwe Embassy we meet with Tatenda Changambika, Ullbile M Nkwate {on X as @NkwateUlib17272}, Heath Simbarasche {on X as @SimbaHeath} and Shorayi Spencer Guzha all sent by Stanford Biti on behalf of CCC Southend Branch. Then we are introduced to Nolanga Evangelista Ndlovu (and her 'secretive' daughter), [Nolanga has quite a pedigree in ROHR, CCC and one time former Bulawayo regional board member of ZimRights - now a newly minted ZHRO member too.]. Lots more Zimbabweans were arriving at this time too.
Just then, and out of the blue, as it were, the State Mercedes with a ZIM 1 number plate arrives - difficult to see who is in it due to the tinted windows (to hide the guilty we suspect}. However, an oriental looking chauffeur gets out and opens the rear door, and out pops a skeletal looking old Ambassador in his blue Crombie Coat and a stylish Dark Fedora Hat! Ex-Colonel Christain Katsande himself.
Then in all the most spontaneous outpouring Rudo Yvonne Dodzo starts with a protest song - with all the other Zimbabweans joining in! it was absolutely brilliant: hatidi zvekupiwa order nema sasikamu (we don’t want to be ordered around by lunatics/saskam). The video of this event is also on our Flickr Platform - please view and listen to it HERE it was so good we also put it on Twitter/X {HERE} as did Thabo Makuyana {HERE}.
Not long after that hilarious skit we set off towards Trafalgar Square, to Whitehall to arrive under the gaze of Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery - opposite the entrance to Downing Street - our ultimate destination. Here we organised ourselves for speeches, and whilst those were being spoken {including the message from Chief Ndiweni as referred to above} 4 of us went to present ourselves to the security of Downing Street MET Police Diplomatic Unit.
for Diana Machingauta, Rudo Yvonne Dodzo and Tawanda Matangambiri, it was an "eye opener" as all the Police inside the security gates were so friendly - posing for photographs and even taking pictures of us with our own mobile phones. The Police were smiling, they were jovial and honest. Even though the officer who accompanied us to the door of 10 Downing Street had a side arm, a 'tazer', stab vest and all that equipment - there was no threat! He was just a guy doing a job. Not like the Zimbabwe Police. The chap inside Downing Street was neat and tidy, his boots were shiny and black - his uniform well looked after.
We posed for photos at the famous doorway to Number 10 Downing Street - with the brass Letter box with the words "First Lord of the Treasury" the Official Historic Title of the Prime Minister. Next door - The Chancellor of the Exchequer has another title of "Second Lord of the Treasury" - so much history since 1682. So what was our purpose, what did we deliver to the PM on the 20th February 2025 - Well you Can Read it yourself HERE - CLICK for Petition Read/Or Download - opens in a new Window.
Now whilst some of us were playing at 'knocking on the door to 10 Downing Street', the rest of the activists were conducting speeches to continue with the general protest we had started that day. Several videos are now showing on Twitter

Electoral Reforms: Zimbabwe Opposition’s Urgent Priority
Linked HERE to Physical Petition as handed into 10 Downing Street and e-mailed to FCDO
With the ruling ZANU PF party embroiled in internal factional battles, the political scene in Zimbabwe is approaching interesting times. Unfortunately, the opposition is focused on the fallout within ZANU PF while the most urgent issue—electoral reform—is being sidelined. Without fundamental changes to the electoral system, the next election is likely to be another manipulated process that keeps ZANU PF in power against the will of the people, whether it’s Mnangagwa or Chiwenga at the helm.
The 2023 elections once again exposed how the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) operate as an extension of ZANU PF rather than an independent election body. The opposition lost largely because of a compromised voters’ roll, which was never properly audited, making it easy for ghost voters and irregular registrations to benefit the ruling party. Gerrymandering also played a role, with constituency boundaries altered to favor ZANU PF.
State-sponsored voter intimidation was another major factor. The presence of FAZ (Forever Associates Zimbabwe), a ZANU PF-linked group that effectively acted as an extension of the intelligence services, created a climate of fear at polling stations. Many rural voters were subjected to assisted voting, where they were pressured into casting ballots for the ruling party. Reports of ballot stuffing and vote tampering were ignored by ZEC, which refused to act on any complaints raised by the opposition.
Despite overwhelming evidence of a rigged process, ZEC declared the elections free and fair, reinforcing the reality that it is not a neutral institution. The opposition must stop treating ZEC as a legitimate electoral body and instead demand its complete disbandment. There is no point in participating in elections run by an institution that is designed to keep ZANU PF in power.
For decades, ZANU PF has blocked meaningful electoral reforms because they know that a free and fair election would likely result in their removal from power. They have refused to allow independent audits of the voters’ roll, manipulated electoral laws to ensure ZEC remains under government control, and used state institutions like the police and judiciary to suppress opposition campaigns and protests. ZANU PF party has also relied on intimidation and violence to discourage voter participation, particularly in rural areas where they enforce their control through traditional leaders.
Their resistance to reform is an admission that they cannot win a democratic election without rigging. This is why the opposition must stop getting distracted by ZANU PF’s internal conflicts and instead focus on mobilizing for electoral reforms. The real fight is not about who takes over within ZANU PF—it is about ensuring that the electoral system no longer allows them to manipulate elections.
ZANU PF has been pushing for Zimbabwe’s re-admission into the Commonwealth, hoping to regain unlikely international legitimacy. However, the Commonwealth must not grant Zimbabwe this privilege without concrete electoral reforms. Re-admitting Zimbabwe without fixing its deeply flawed electoral system would be a betrayal of democratic values.

ZIMBABWE finds itself at yet another critical crossroads. See Article on Newsday {Click Here} Check Out Charles Kanyimo on Twitter/X
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is manoeuvring to extend his presidency beyond the constitutional limit, aiming to remain in power until 2030. With a big portion of his own party against it, this move echoes the failed attempt by Grace Mugabe to seize control prior to the 2017 military intervention. Just as Grace’s ambitions caused political instability, Mnangagwa’s efforts risk further destabilising both ZANU-PF and the country, reigniting fears of authoritarian rule. {see additional Articles - CLICK HERE}
Under Mnangagwa’s leadership, the government is attempting to override the country’s constitution, which was carefully crafted to ensure peaceful political transitions. This bold, audacious push is a direct attack on democracy and the rule of law, further entrenching corruption and misrule. For a nation already grappling with economic collapse, hyperinflation, and widespread poverty, this move is a betrayal of the hopes Zimbabweans had for a brighter future. {in addition ZAPU President M S Nkomo has made his Party's Position clear in their article and a Press Conference CLICK HERE to read}
Prominent journalist and activist Hopewell Chin’ono has been one of the loudest voices condemning this unconstitutional effort. He has called the plan “a clear assault on the democratic aspirations of Zimbabweans,” describing Mnangagwa’s government as;
“a personal fiefdom, ruled by a corrupt mafia.”
These charges are not unfounded. Under Mnangagwa’s rule, Zimbabwe’s government has become synonymous with looting, nepotism, and harsh repression. The president and his inner circle—his family included—have enriched themselves by plundering the nation’s resources, while ordinary Zimbabweans struggle daily. The push to amend the constitution is not about governance or national stability, but rather about consolidating power and continuing the systematic looting of the country’s wealth.
When Mnangagwa took power in 2017 after the coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, many Zimbabweans were hopeful. They believed a new era of reform, economic revival, and democracy had arrived. But nearly eight years into his presidency, it is clear that Mnangagwa’s government is no different—if not worse—than the one it replaced.
The 2013 constitution, which was adopted following a national referendum, represents one of Zimbabwe’s most significant democratic milestones. It limits the presidency to two five-year terms, ensuring a peaceful transfer of power. Yet, Mnangagwa’s bid to extend his rule until 2030 would turn the constitution into an instrument of oppression, instead of a safeguard of democracy.

Over the years, and started back around 2015/6 Rashiwe - suggested a Walk for Freedom. Ever since many of us have partaken in an activity, which is free, inspirational {when in the Countryside} and a good, gentle form of exercise. The first step {excuse the pun} is to consult the maps - both online and off-line {paper-maps} to "plan to explore" - in the UK we are very fortunate to have the OS {Ordnance Survey} and an amazing amount of public footpaths and bridleways. More about the UK and its heritage of mapping: The name ORDNANCE SURVEY hints at how it all began. See more history later;
We have also encourages regional Walk for Freedom activities and are seeking support from the diaspora to look at organising more now we are in 2025. See More Articles HERE - 20th May 2023 and HERE for photo log of the Bolton Abbey Walk in 2022
Our first Walk for Freedom {as ZHRO - since we had tried a Walk to London in 2016 as ROHR} was on 21st August 2017. We took some time at the hills above Brighton - at the Public House, called the Devil's Dyke {near the geographic feature of the same name} See our Photo Album CLICK HERE - to open a new Window

How Dare You Intimidate Us

On this day of all days, the 37th Anniversary of the {forced} signing of the "Unity Accord" - itself a testimony to the aberration of the Zanu PF Military Junta - in conducting the Gukurahundi GENOCIDE to force the hand of ZAPU President Joshua Nkomo {at that time their ally!} into subsuming his independence party within the {evil} Zanu PF structures. In effect the creation of a One-Party-State {Mugabe's plan all along} - thus destroying any semblance of a DEMOCRACY! So hardly "UNITY" at all!
Today in the scurrilous rag the New Zimbabwe is an article which stinks of INTIMIDATION upon all Opposition within the Diaspora {LINKHERE} but in case they decide to scrub this unhelpful {to Zimbabwe's standing within SADC or Globally} diatribe we have taken the time to create an image of the article HERE - which can be enlarged by clicking the image icon itself.
WE DEMAND an APOLOGY: From the Zimbabwean Ambassador and the Zanu PF administration in Zimbabwe. This is unacceptalbe INTIMIDATION and DISINFORMATION.
This is catastrophic for any hope of a democratic space in Zimbabwe, their infamous role within SADC - and most damaging - any hope of re-admission into the British Commonwealth {sic}. We should like to know this "Staff Reporter", who signed-off this article for publication and WHY - on the 22nd December 2024 - The 37th ANNIVERSARY of the {so called} "UNITY ACCORD" - itself a damning testimony of the sickening objectives of Mugabe and co, informing a One-Party-State - at ANY COST - that was the basis of the Gukurahundi Geocodes!
We have written before about CIO Spies in the UK {and elsewhere. CLICK HERE} who are subtly and not-so-subtly intimidating many within the diaspora - those who have fled the torture chambers of Zimbabwe's CIO's and assorted psychopaths. Some are named within this disgraceful article which is blatant DISINFORMATION. We recall similar disinformation way back in November 2021 after our demonstrations in Glasgow at COP26 and Mnangagwa's cynical visit, at the invitation of the UN.

Thursday, Genocide Petition to the Prime Minister!
On 5th December 2024 we congregated outside the newly "secured" Zimbabwe Embassy - they have got some grim looking metal security gated fabrications at the side and front entrances - to make the Embassy even less friendly or appealing to the Zimbabwean Diaspora - security concerns or Guilt? - we have to ask why these new gates - {photo on Flickr - click to see for yourself SIDE DOOR - 429 CORNER DOOR }.
True to form the guilty inside locked their doors - simply as we were there. Indeed they sent out a CIO to sit in his new BMW X6 to "observe us" - so we took their photos too - again on our Flickr Album of the day. {CLICK HERE TO SEE THE DAYS PHOTO ALBUM} Please note that due to technical constraints, the videos recorded today will take some considerable time to be 'compressed' in order to be displayed upon our Flickr Platform - so expect videos to be appearing by the weekend please.
We took some more photos with our "Zanu PF Must Go" banner and by 13:30 we sidled off towards Trafalgar Square and onto Whitehall. by 13:45 we were arranged opposite Downing Street - under the gaze of "Monty" at his commemorative statue. By the time we have said our hellos to the new supporters opposite Downing Street it was time to present our band of 6 petitioners to the Diplomatic Police Unit in control of Downing Street. Ronald T Mutumbi, was due to be the Organiser of the 6 of us today - but had unexpected problems with travel on the day - such a pity.
So we 6 lined up at the solid security gates {making the Zimbabwean Embassy gates looking a little flimsy!} at the entrance to Downing Street. Our Police Diplomatic Unit Escort - was a friendly as any tourist guide - calling us in by our first names! As some may know within those gates we have to go through Air Port Quality X-Ray machines to check all our bags, mobile phones or any metal objects.
Liberation was Hijacked

The greatest tragedy to Zimbabwe was the hijacking of its liberation struggle
Yesterday, I received a heart-wrenching message from a former combatant of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, now residing in South Africa. His words, laced with pain and disillusionment, will forever resonate with me. In his message, he recounted the harrowing experiences he and his fellow freedom fighters endured during the war, a period marked by immense trauma and sacrifice. Yet, despite the bloodshed, the suffering, and the unyielding hope for a better future, the independence that came in 1980 did not deliver the freedom or the prosperity he and so many others had envisioned.
Instead, it brought an economic and political system that seemed to intensify their hardships. For millions of Zimbabweans, including this former combatant, the post-independence era only marked a deepening of poverty and despair, culminating in his decision to leave the country in search of a better life abroad. In his final words, he asked a question that brought tears to my eyes: “Why did we go to war, and why did thousands lose their lives?”
His message struck at the heart of Zimbabwe’s greatest tragedy—one that has yet to be adequately addressed in our national discourse. Another painful reminder of this betrayal comes from the account of a different war veteran whose life I am currently documenting in a book. His story, which spans from his early years before the war, through his experiences during the liberation struggle, and into the harsh realities of post-independence Zimbabwe, paints the same tragic picture. Like many others, he joined the fight with hopes of a new, just society—one where the fruits of independence would be shared by all.
Yet, upon returning to Zimbabwe after the war, he found himself trapped in a system that prioritized the enrichment of a small political elite while the vast majority, including veterans like himself, were left to struggle. His dreams, like those of so many others, were crushed by the very government he helped to bring to power, leaving him with a deep sense of betrayal. He, too, ended up leaving the country he fought for in search of a better life.
The liberation struggle was hijacked by those who were supposed to lead the country towards a more just and equitable society.
Instead of empowering the masses, the independence movement was usurped by a small, self-interested elite whose primary goal was not freedom for all, but power and control over the nation’s wealth. This elite, driven by personal ambition rather than a genuine desire for social transformation, has systematically enriched themselves at the expense of the very people who fought to secure the country’s freedom. The liberation struggle, which should have been about the collective liberation of all Zimbabweans, has instead become a bitter reminder of the betrayal of the ideals it was meant to represent.
24th Oct 2024 Dual Petition Day

What a day - what a day!
Zimbabweans arrived from all over, from Glasgow to Cornwall, From Liverpool and Leicester. Just all over. Some set off yesterday to make the DOUBLE Petition - a first from the diaspora.
Chanting outside the Zimbabwe Embassy, which unfortunately has an infestation of CIO's and Zanu stooges. In fact, we have seen on several occassions in the past many (non-Zanu) Zimbabweans, thrown out of their own Embassy - by the UK Diplomatic Protection Police. Due to the gutless yes men and women inside.
But be that as it may it was a great day for the real diaspora - not the fake diaspora that Zanu PF claim to have "on-side", but the real diaspora - who are in opposition to Zanu PF - AND ARE A MAJORITY! Oh, that's why the only way to stop the Zanu fakery is the wide scale DIASPORA VOTE - Something we have campaigned upon for many years (at least since 2018 with Petitions to the UK in 2021) and Chief Ndiweni's REFERENDUM Proposal.
Back to the 24th October 2024. So we left the Zimbabwe Embassy {a big sigh of relief from those inside} around 13:00 to saunter down to our favourite spot besides Field Marshall Montgomery and Opposite Downing Street, where the UK's New Prime Minister is now housed. We had little time to settle before Basil Kamombe had to marshall his crew of 6 men to enter the security gates to Downing Street itself. Each Petitioner was vetted by the Police Diplomatic Unit for Downing Street, against their security checks.
Once through those gates, guarded by armed police {with automatic weapons}, further {airport equivalent} security checks were carreid out on bags, clothing etc. Then the valiant 6 were guided by an extremely friendly police man {a million miles from their Zanu PF, poorly paid counter parts} who helped them with photographs and the petition hand over.

A Petitioners Perspective

On October 24, 2024, Zimbabwean human rights and political activists in the UK came together to deliver two petitions to Number 10 Downing Street. Activists were determined to spotlight the injustices happening in Zimbabwe and the alarming maternal mortality rated in the country.
I was privileged to be one of the activists participating in this demonstration. I felt a strong sense of purpose as we presented our petitions to the Prime Minister's Office . The first petition was calling for urgent international attention to the human rights violations that are rampant in Zimbabwe where voices have been quietened by Zanu PF. The second petition was about the maternal mortality rate that has critically gone high. Expectant mothers are dying, a situation that requires urgent action and support from the international world.
We have a link to the Petition itself {CLICK HERE} and an extract from it states:
Michael Sibangilizwe Nkomo has written today {23rd October 2024} on the ZAPU.ORG website a heart felt and poignant message regarding the serious Maternal Death issues within Zimbabwe.
“As for the populace in Zimbabwe, the greatest impact of ZANU PF misrule will remain in the form of terrifying maternal and infant mortality rates. Independently verified statistics on Zimbabwe's institutional maternity challenges paint a grim picture of a country precariously on the brink.”
- Institutional maternal mortality rate was 114 per 100,000 live births in 2023 compared to 107 in 2022, noting a concerning increase.
- Perinatal mortality rate (PMR) increased from 28.4 per 1000 births to 35.6 per 1000 births.
- Most perinatal deaths (75.3%) occurred at Kwekwe General Hospital situated at the centre of a gold-rich part of Zimbabwe.
- Hypertension contributed 59/333 (17.7%) to stillbirths while
- birth asphyxia accounted for 210/511 (41.1%) of early neonatal deaths (ENND) as at 20 September 2023.
- Mortality rate, neonatal (per 1,000 live births) in Zimbabwe was reported at 24.3 % in 2022, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources.
At our Petition, our cry to the Prime Minister and his government was to help us with its influence to pressure Zanu PF government to answer the call of Zimbabwean Citizens and allow them to be led by a government of their choice. The high maternal mortality rate indicates the adverse failures that have affected affected citizens and communities.
An air of Hope and resilience filled the air as we sang and danced in one accord. The demand for justice and accountability amongst others was expressed in song and dance, as we demonstrated togetherness in our fight for the rights of Zimbabwean citizens and advocating for a future where every pregnant mother has a right to live.
